MISSION STATEMENT

Forgotten Animals of Los Angeles (FALA) is dedicated to the rescue of homeless cats and the elimination of their suffering. We understand that animal over-population is the root of the problem. It is our goal to make the public aware of their responsibility toward animals by conducting an aggressive campaign to educate them on the necessity for humane treatment and sterilization of pets. Rescued animals will receive medical care and housing until (through an extensive screening process) they are placed in good, permanent homes.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1999 by Charleen Sweeney, FALA is the result of a group of dedicated animal rescuers coming together to combine their passions and energies. Charleen Sweeney is the former Director of the Bide-A-Wee Animal Shelter in New York City. After moving to Los Angeles, she met Shirley Russo, another Toluca Lake resident and devoted animal rescuer. Charleen and Shirley realized they would accomplish more by working together as a non-profit organization, recruiting like-minded people to work with them.

ABOUT US

Each member of the Board of Directors of FALA has been working for decades to save stray animals from misery and death. Everyone who works with FALA is a volunteer, allowing 100% of all donations to go directly to helping the animals. The volunteers of FALA get down in the trenches, and their commitment to the animals is life-long. They rescue the "throw-aways", as 98% of FALA's animals are rescued from the streets where they were awaiting horrifying futures.

To control and humanely maintain the feral cat population, FALA uses the TNR (trap, neuter & return) policy that has proven to be the most effective. Rescued animals are inocculated, neutered or spayed, and receive medical care including treatment for infections and injuries, tests for FELV/FIV and deworming.

When animals can be adopted, they are healthy and well-cared for, having been lovingly sheltered in temporary foster homes until, through an extensive screening process, they are placed in good, permanent homes. FALA is always looking for good, kind, caring foster homes to house these precious creatures while they await the right permanent home.

The screening process used by FALA is exacting and stringent. And FALA stays in contact with the adopted parents for the remainder of the animal's life. FALA also offers in-home behavioral sessions with every adoption at no charge.

Other FALA activities include bringing animals to senior centers and hospitals to comfort the sick and elderly, as well as helping seniors who live at home to care for their four-legged companions by assisting with food and medical concerns.

FALA steps in wherever they are needed, whenever they can!
